Twelve print-ready receipts and the exemption worked out to the rupee
Payroll wants twelve months of rent receipts and you have an agreement, a bank statement and no time. RentProof prints the whole year in one go — April to March, numbered consecutively, two to an A4 page, each with the landlord's PAN, the full property address, the amount in words and a revenue-stamp box only where cash rent actually needs one. Then it does the arithmetic most people get wrong: the HRA exemption as the least of three amounts, applying the 50% limit to Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru under Rule 279 of the Income-tax Rules 2026 for tax year 2026-27 — and to the four old metros only for earlier years. Section 80GG, a landlord no-PAN declaration, a rent summary sheet and a ten-item document checklist come with it. One HTML file on your own device: no sign-up, no monthly fee, no internet needed, and your salary and your landlord's PAN never leave your browser.

Every January, the same scramble
Payroll asks for twelve months of rent receipts. You have a rent agreement and a bank statement, and nothing that looks like the form they want. So you write receipts by hand, or hunt for a free website that wants your landlord's PAN typed into someone else's server, and then discover the receipt is missing the property PIN code, or the amount in words, or the receipt number payroll insists on.
Meanwhile the HRA calculation itself is quietly wrong for a lot of people. From tax year 2026-27 the 50% limit is no longer "the four metros" — Rule 279 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026 extends it to Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru as well. Anyone still applying 40% in Bengaluru is leaving exemption on the table; anyone applying 50% in Gurugram is claiming too much and will see it reversed. RentProof gets both the paperwork and the arithmetic right, in one file that never leaves your laptop.
Four steps, about ten minutes, once a year
Financial year, monthly rent, city, your name, the landlord's name and PAN, and the full property address. Everything is reused on all twelve receipts and in every calculation.
April to March, numbered consecutively from whatever you choose. Correct any month whose rent differed, or set it to zero for a month you did not live there.
Two receipts per A4 page, six pages for the year. Get them signed by the landlord and hand them to payroll — or email the PDF.
The HRA tab shows all three limits, which one decides your exemption, and what stays taxable. Print the working sheet to attach to your declaration.
Everything in the ZIP
One per month of the financial year, each with receipt number, tenant, landlord, landlord PAN, full property address, period, amount in figures and in words using Indian numbering, payment mode, optional bank or UPI reference, date of receipt and a signature block.
Section 10(13A) as the least of three amounts, with each limit shown separately and the deciding one marked. It tells you which limit binds, so you know what to change if the answer surprises you.
50% for Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru under Rule 279 from tax year 2026-27; the four old metros only under Rule 2A for earlier years. Choose the year and the app switches.
The ₹5,000-a-month cap, 25% of adjusted total income and rent less 10% of income, with the same least-of-three treatment — and an honest refusal if you own a house where you work.
The annual total is tracked as you type. Cross ₹1,00,000 and the app says the PAN is now required, checks the format, and points you to the no-PAN declaration if there isn't one.
Cash rent above ₹5,000 a month prints a Re 1 stamp box to be signed across. Bank transfer, UPI and cheque print no box at all — because none is required.
A printable declaration for the landlord to sign when they hold no PAN or an application is pending — the document most payroll teams accept in its place.
Two extra printable pages: a month-by-month summary with the annual total, and a clean HRA working sheet to attach to Form 124 or keep with your papers.
Agreement, receipts, PAN, bank trail, Form 124, relationship disclosure, stamps, address proof — tickable, saved, with the three mistakes that get claims disallowed spelled out.
One-click JSON export and import of everything you have entered. Move it to another laptop, keep it in Drive, or restore it next March without retyping a single field.
What each tab gives you
One form. Financial year, rent, payment mode, city, tenant, landlord and property. Saved as you type, on your device only.
Four numbers across the top — annual rent, the receipt range, whether the PAN is required, whether a revenue stamp is needed — then the twelve editable months and the print buttons.
Three limit cards, the deciding one outlined in gold, then exempt, taxable and salary base. Below it, the indicative tax saved at your marginal rate.
The same three-card treatment for people without HRA, with Form 10BA and the ownership condition stated plainly.
The ten-item checklist with progress, the no-PAN declaration generator, and the three patterns that get an HRA claim reopened.
Export, import, load the labelled sample, clear everything — plus how each figure is calculated, in plain words.
Anyone who pays rent and has a payroll team
If you live in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune or Ahmedabad, the 50% limit is new for tax year 2026-27. This is the year to re-run the numbers instead of copying last year's claim.
Twelve months, printed and signed, in the time it takes to fill one form. No handwriting, no missing fields, no rejected pack.
Every month has its own amount, so a hike in October or a month away from the flat is handled without breaking the annual total.
No HRA component, so the deduction is the ₹60,000-capped 80GG route — computed, and paired with the receipts an assessing officer will ask for.
Your landlord's PAN and your salary figures stay in your own browser. The file loads nothing from the internet and sends nothing anywhere.
One purchase covers one person's receipts for as many years as they need — set it up for a son or daughter's first rented flat in ten minutes.
Plain, portable files — no lock-in
One ZIP with a single self-contained HTML file, an eleven-section user guide, a quick-start text file, a labelled sample-data JSON and a twelve-clause licence. Unzips on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.
Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on desktop and mobile. No internet connection needed once downloaded — the file loads no fonts, scripts or trackers from the web.
Print to any A4 printer, or Save as PDF from the print dialog. Two receipts per page. The print stylesheet forces a clean light layout whatever your screen theme.
In your browser's local storage on that device, under the key rentproof-v1. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account. Export a JSON backup at the end of each session.
It is not tax advice and it does not file anything. It does not know your salary structure, your regime choice or your landlord's circumstances, and it does not verify that rent was paid — the landlord's signature does that.
One purchase, one person, forever
Your purchase covers use by one person on their own devices, for as many financial years as you like. You may edit the HTML file for your own use and print as many receipts as you need for your own tenancy. You may not resell, redistribute or republish the files, or use them to build a competing product. Full terms are in LICENSE.txt inside the ZIP.

Everything you need to know before buying
A working app. The ZIP contains one HTML file that opens in your browser as a rent-receipt generator and HRA calculator — twelve months of receipts, the exemption working, 80GG, the declaration and the checklist. Nothing to install, no account to create.
Twelve rent receipts for the financial year you choose, April to March, two on each A4 page. Each carries the receipt number, tenant, landlord and PAN, the full property address, the period, the amount in figures and in words, the payment mode and reference, the date, a signature block, and a revenue-stamp box where one is needed. It also prints a one-page rent summary with the HRA working, and a landlord no-PAN declaration.
The least of three amounts: the HRA actually received, the rent paid minus one-tenth of salary, and 50% or 40% of salary. Salary means basic pay plus dearness allowance where DA forms part of your terms of employment — not gross salary, and certainly not CTC.
From tax year 2026-27, Rule 279 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026 gives the 50% limit to Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru. Everywhere else — Gurugram, Noida, Kochi, Jaipur and the rest — it is 40%. For tax year 2025-26 and earlier, only Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Chennai get 50% under Rule 2A. Choose the financial year in the app and the right rule is applied; the note under the calculation tells you which one is in force.
No. The Section 10(13A) exemption applies only under the old regime. The app computes the exemption figure; whether you can use it depends on the regime you have chosen, and it will not pretend otherwise.
Once the rent paid in the year exceeds ₹1,00,000. The app tracks the annual total as you type, warns you the moment you cross the threshold, and checks that the PAN is in the right shape — five letters, four digits, one letter.
The Documents tab prints a declaration for the landlord to sign, stating that no PAN is held or that an application is pending. That is what most employers accept in place of the number. It means nothing without the landlord's signature, so print it, get it signed and keep a copy with the receipts.
For rent paid in cash above ₹5,000 a month, a Re 1 revenue stamp is affixed and signed across. The app prints a stamp box on exactly those months when you set the mode to cash, and no box at all for bank transfer, UPI or cheque.
Yes. Every month has its own editable amount. Set a month to zero for a month you did not occupy the flat, and the annual total, the HRA figures and the printed receipts all follow from it.
It covers 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28. Receipts run April to March, which is how payroll and the return both work, and the metro rule switches with the year you select.
Yes. Every print button opens your browser's print dialog, where Save as PDF gives you a file you can email to payroll. Two receipts fit on each A4 page, so twelve months come to six pages; if a receipt spills onto a second page, set the print margins to Default or Minimum.
The file loads nothing from the internet and works with the connection switched off. Your entries are stored in your own browser on your own device under the key rentproof-v1. Nothing is uploaded. There is a one-click JSON export and a matching import, so you can move everything to another laptop or keep a backup in Drive.
No. It does arithmetic on the figures you enter and formats the documents. It does not file anything, connect to any portal, or verify that rent was paid — that is what the signed receipts and your bank statement are for.
No. It is a calculator and a document generator. Rules change — Rule 279 itself is new from 1 April 2026 — so confirm the current position with your chartered accountant before relying on a figure for a filing.
