Who This Is For

Four situations, four different starting points

📱

You just handed over a first phone

Chapter 12 gives you the four decisions to make before the phone is used, and Chapter 21 gives you the rule card for the age you are at. Do those two and you are ahead of most families.

🤖

Your child uses ChatGPT for homework

Chapter 3 explains the answer-machine problem, Chapter 23 gives you the tutor prompt to put on the wall, and Chapter 18 shows you how to check which mode their account is actually in.

😰

Something has already happened

Go straight to Chapter 25. Seven scenario cards, each with the first hour and the 72 hours after, and Chapter 26 with every Indian reporting channel and how to write the complaint.

👩‍🏫

You are a teacher or counsellor

Parts Two and Five are written to be used with parents: the nine risks, the reporting ladder, the law in plain English and the three emails in Chapter 28.

What You'll Master

Six things that are harder to find than they should be

⏰ 13 May 2027

India's DPDP Act gives children's data a hard date. Chapter 1 explains what becomes mandatory — verifiable parental consent, no tracking of children — and why age prompts are appearing in apps right now.

⚡ The two-hour rule

Since 20 February 2026, intimate and morphed images must be removed within two hours of a complaint. Chapter 5 and Chapter 26 tell you the exact words to use.

🔧 40+ settings, screen by screen

Family Link, Screen Time, YouTube content levels and Shorts limits, Instagram supervision and hidden words, WhatsApp privacy, AI chatbot parental controls — with what each one does and where it stops.

🧾 A printable family agreement

Ten clauses, a signature line, and instructions for negotiating two of them so the document is partly your child's.

💬 Ten conversation scripts

The opening line, the objections, the disclosure and the sextortion conversation — written to be read out loud, not admired.

⚖️ The law, with section numbers

POCSO, IT Act 66E and 67B, IT Rules 3(2)(b), BNS 78 and 351, DPDP section 9 — and the eight reporting channels, from the platform to the POCSO e-Box.

Inside the Playbook

31 chapters — the risks, the settings, the conversations, and the bad day

  1. Five things that changed in 2026

The DPDP children's deadline of 13 May 2027, the two-hour deepfake removal rule, teen modes in AI chatbots, Instagram's new defaults in India, and the harm numbers.

  2. What your child is actually doing with AI

Four age bands — 6-9, 10-12, 13-15, 16-17 — with the one control and the one sentence that matter at each.

  3. The homework problem

Answer machine versus tutor, the five signs the mode is wrong, and the four steps that fix it.

  4. AI companions and emotional dependence

What companion apps are, why they appeal, the four specific risks, and the response that works where a ban does not.

  5. Deepfakes, morphed photos and sextortion

How it starts, what the platforms owe you under the two-hour rule, the first hour in order, and the six things never to do.

  6. Grooming: games, DMs and the secret-friend rule

Where it happens, the methods, the warning signs, and the one rule a nine-year-old can remember.

  7. Bullying, impersonation and doxxing

The five shapes, the section numbers that apply, the 48-hour plan after a pile-on, and what never to say.

  8. Money: games, UPI and the free-diamonds trap

The five scams that hit Indian households, the structural fixes, and the first call to make if money has gone.

  9. Privacy: what is collected, and the DPDP deadline

Declared, behavioural and inferred data, what changes on 13 May 2027, and five things you can do before the law does.

  10. When AI is confidently wrong

Where it fails most, why children believe it, and the ninety-second habit that catches it.

  11. Sleep, attention and mood

What the evidence supports, the five interventions in order of effect, and when it is more than screen time.

  12. The 20-minute household audit

Four structural decisions — device sleeping place, install approval, the money rule and a network filter — before any app work.

  13. Android: Google Family Link

Six steps, from the child account and its birth date to per-app limits, plus an honest note on where Family Link stops.

  14. iPhone and iPad: Screen Time and Family Sharing

Child accounts, Downtime, App Limits, Communication Limits, Content and Privacy Restrictions, Ask to Buy, Safety Check.

  15. YouTube: supervised accounts and Shorts limits

The three content levels, blocking channels, autoplay, watch history, and the Shorts limit that can be set to zero.

  16. Instagram and Meta: what Teen Accounts already does

The eight protections already on for an Indian under-18 account, the supervision link, and the three things defaults cannot know.

  17. WhatsApp and messaging

Five settings, the age question, and three habits — including the forwarded-message rule.

  18. AI chatbots: the age limits and the controls

An eleven-service table — minimum age, under-18 experience and parental controls — plus what no service will let a parent do.

  19. Search, homework apps and school devices

SafeSearch locking, activity auto-delete, doubt-solver apps, and three questions for the school.

  20. The one-page agreement you can print

Ten clauses, a signature line, and the one clause that decides whether you find out in the first hour or the third month.

  21. Age-wise rule cards

Four cards, one per age band, designed to be photographed and kept on a phone.

  22. Ten scripts for the conversations that matter

The opening line, the objections, the disclosure, the sextortion conversation and the one about their future.

  23. The homework protocol

Three rules, the copy-paste tutor prompt, and a table of what is allowed by task.

  24. Twelve questions that build judgment

Six to ask the AI, six to ask yourself — the practice that replaces a lecture.

  25. The first hour

Four universal steps and seven scenario cards, from a morphed image to a disclosure of self-harm.

  26. The reporting ladder

Eight channels, what each is for, and how to write a complaint that gets acted on.

  27. The law in plain English

POCSO, the IT Act and IT Rules, the BNS and the DPDP Act — with the sections, the penalties and what the law does not do.

  28. Working with the school

Three emails that do the work, and what to ask for specifically.

  29. The 30-day rollout plan

Twenty minutes a day for thirty days, in the order that works, ending with a written note of what you deliberately left out.

  30. Printable checklists and the quarterly review

A thirteen-point setup checklist and four review questions, with the next review in the calendar.

  31. Sources and verification log

Every law, date, statistic and platform page used, with the month it was checked.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before buying

Is this for Indian parents specifically?

Yes. It is built around Indian law — the DPDP Act 2023 and the DPDP Rules 2025, the IT Rules as amended in February 2026, POCSO and the BNS — and around the reporting routes that exist in India: cybercrime.gov.in, 1930, 1098, 112 and the POCSO e-Box. The device settings are the same everywhere, but every legal and reporting chapter is India-specific.

My child is only 8. Is this too early?

No — Chapter 21 has a rule card for ages 6 to 9, and Chapter 15 covers supervised YouTube accounts, which is the main AI-adjacent risk at that age. If your child is under 10, read Chapters 2, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15 and 21 and leave the rest until they are older.

Will the settings be out of date in a few months?

The menu names may move; the logic will not. Chapter 31 tells you what to search for in any app to find the same four controls, and the book teaches the principle behind each setting rather than only the tap sequence. Every date, age limit and rule in this edition was checked in October 2026 and the source is listed so you can verify it yourself.

Does it cover ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI chatbots?

Chapter 18 has a table of eleven services — ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Meta AI, Character.AI, Snapchat My AI, Perplexity, Poe, DeepSeek, Grok and Claude — with each one's minimum age, its under-18 experience and whether it offers parental controls. It also explains plainly what no AI service currently lets a parent do, so you are not sold monitoring software that does not work.

What if something has already happened?

Go to Chapter 25. It has seven scenario cards — morphed images, sextortion, money taken, account takeover, bullying, grooming and self-harm disclosure — each with what to do in the first hour and what to do after. Chapter 26 is the reporting ladder with every Indian channel and how to write a complaint that gets acted on.

Is this legal advice?

No. It explains what the statutes and rules say, in plain English, with section numbers and sources so you can check them and speak to a lawyer or the police without being lost. For a live dispute you still need a lawyer.

How do I download it after payment?
